Origin of our name (CHOPED-asia)

What’s in a name…

In Singapore, “chope” is the practice of reserving a table in a hawker or food court using a packet of tissue. Most of us being based in Singapore, we want a name that we can all relate to and that’s easy to remember.

On a more serious note, CHOPED in our project stands for Coordinating Humanitarian OPErations in times of Disaster. This spells out our mission statement. Notably, we are focusing on Asia since it is home to a multitude of natural disasters.

Through our research project, we aspire to give hope in how Asians cope with natural disasters. Every little bit of help counts.
